Pant to address the Multistakeholder session on the future of the media and safety of journalists
Washington D.C./November 2: Laxman Datt Pant, the Chairperson of Media Action is in Washington D.C. to contribute in the various dialogues organized to commemorate the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists.
Pant, who also serves as one of the three Co-Chairs at the Consultative Network of Media Freedom Coalition (MFC) is joining a high level panel discussion “Multistakeholder session: The future of the media and safety of journalists” today at the headquarters of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington D.C.
The event is organized by UNESCO, in partnership with the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), the InterAmerican Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) and its Office of the Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression (RELE).
This session aims to bring together various actors and duty-bearers in the same space, with the objective of discussing the challenges in terms of violence and attacks faced by journalists, and the future of journalism. Some challenges that have not been discussed so far and that may be addressed are surveillance, media sustainability, protest contexts, and the closing of civic space.
On Wednesday (Nov 1), he joined a roundtable discussion “the Safety of Journalists: Breaking or Turning Point?” organized by the Center for International Media Assistance (CIMA).
