Media Action Nepal denounces assaults on journalists in Madhesh province
KATHMANDU | October 3: Media Action Nepal has denounced the assaults on journalists Dhruv Jha and Priya Karn in Janakpurdham of Madhesh Province.
On October 1, 2025, at the Hansraj Sweet Shop, journalist Priya Karn was harassed by a rickshaw driver and later beaten by nearly half a dozen factory and shop employees when she questioned the misbehavior, according to Media Action Nepal’s Madhesh Province Coordinator Hadis Khuddar.
On the same day, journalist Dhruv Jha was also attacked in Ramchowk while reporting on footpath encroachment. A group of staff members belonging to Hansraj Sweet Shop assaulted him and attempted to snatch his mobile phone to obstruct his reporting.
Media Action Nepal calls these incidents an attack on press freedom and demands an immediate investigation and strict legal action against those involved in intimidating journalists.
