KATHMANDU | July 9: Media Action Nepal condemns the mistreatment of journalist Diwakar Sah at the Infrastructure Development Office in Jaleshwar, Mahottari, while he was reporting on alleged irregularities. Subjecting a journalist to such abuse while carrying out their professional duties is a serious and unacceptable violation of press freedom, remarked Laxman Datt Pant, Founder and Executive Director of Media Action Nepal.

On the night of July 8, 2025, Sah, Chairperson of the HTP Khabar, was mistreated by a group of individuals while he was collecting news at an office suspected of being involved in improper activities, according to Hadis Khuddar, the province coordinator for Media Action Nepal in Madhesh province. Khuddar informed that the incident is yet another alarming example of rising threats against journalists in the province.

The incident reflects the deepening crisis of governance in Nepal, including in Madhesh Province, where state mechanisms have repeatedly failed to protect journalists and ensure accountability for crimes committed against media.

Media Action Nepal calls on the concerned authorities to immediately investigate the incident and take legal action against those involved.
