Media Action Nepal concludes Strategic Planning Meeting for 2025-2028

MEDIA ACTION NEPAL/January 26:  Media Action Nepal has successfully concluded its Strategic Planning Meeting (2025-2028) on January 25, 2025. The two-day event, held from January 24 to 25 in Dhulikhel of Kavre disrtict, brought together the organization’s Founder Chair, current Executive Committee members, expert members, and office staff to shape the future direction of the organization.

The meeting was structured into four key sections: a workshop on the foundations of freedom of expression and press freedom, identification of four-year priorities, group presentations, and outlining the way forward.

On the opening day, Founder and Executive Director Laxman Datt Pant welcomed the participants, sharing insights into the organization’s establishment, strengthened partnerships, and its contributions to press freedom and media development in Nepal and on global platforms. Newly elected Chairperson Priyanka Jha highlighted the objectives and agenda of the meeting, while participants shared personal stories and plans for advancing organizational goals.

Day two featured dynamic discussions, beginning with a workshop on press freedom and media development facilitated by Laxman Datt Pant. He provided participants with a comprehensive overview of historical and contemporary issues related to freedom of expression and press freedom, emphasizing the role of civil society organizations (CSOs) and media in safeguarding democracy.

Priyanka Jha presented a detailed four-year roadmap, engaging the Executive Committee in discussions to finalize the organization’s strategy. Group discussions produced a draft strategic plan, which will be finalized soon. Bal Krishna Sah, Secretary, and Triguna Bhattarai, Executive Committee Member, presented the findings from the group discussions. Treasurer Laxmi Khatiwada, along with Executive Committee Members Yam Bahadur Dura, Ganesh Prasad Ghimire, and experts Kalpana Acharya and Krishna Prasad Sigdel, actively contributed to the discussions. Mim Bahadur Pariyar, the newly elected Vice Chairperson, provided his inputs in writing.

The meeting also assigned focal persons to represent Media Action Nepal in global and national networks and alliances, including the Consultative Network of the Media Freedom Coalition, the Global Forum for Media Development, ACOS Alliance, Digital Freedom Coalition, and the EU’s Working Group on Human Rights Defenders.

The meeting concluded with renewed commitments to prioritize press freedom, media development, and journalist safety in Nepal.
