Media Freedom Coalition – Strategy Workshop

Participants include MFC member governments, the Consultative Network of civil society organizations including Media Action Nepal, the High Level Panel of Legal Experts on Media Freedom, UNESCO, and others.
Mr. Laxman Datt Pant, Chairperson of Media Action Nepal, who also Co-Chairs the Consultative Network of the Media Freedom Coalition is participating in the meeting.
Workshop timings
8.30am – 9.00am Arrivals, networking, with tea/coffee provided
9.00am – 9.10am Introduction and welcome from the MFC Co-chairs and MFC Secretariat
9.10am – 10.05am Four breakout groups commence in four distinct spaces. Each discusses one question and is led by a moderator.
10.05am – 10.40am Breakout groups come back together. Moderators and rapporteurs from the
four groups share some key points with a chance for further discussion.
10.40am – 10.45am Wrap up, next steps and close
The workshop groups
Group 1: How can the MFC encourage its members to make meaningful commitments on media
freedom, and ensure they are implemented?
Group 2: How can the MFC maximize the impact of its actions on cases?
Group 3: How can the MFC be inclusive of themes and issues – and make sure that the different
aspects of media freedom, from journalists’ safety to media viability, are incorporated in its decisions and actions?
Group 4: How can the MFC be inclusive of all its member countries – so that any member can take
meaningful action as part of the Coalition?
