Public Media Alliance (PMA) and Media Action Nepal (MAN) invite working journalists and media stakeholders from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, the Maldives, and Sri Lanka to participate in the virtual workshop and media fellowship programme as part of the “Code of Ethics to Improve Conflict Sensitive Reporting and Safety of Journalists in South Asia” project, supported by the UNESCO under the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC).

The workshop will be ONLINE only due to the COVID-19 pandemic and rising cases in Nepal and throughout the region. The application deadline has been extended to 30 July 2021.

Join us for a three-day virtual workshop from 28-30 September 2021, covering conflict sensitive journalism, journalist safety, and self-regulation. The workshop is open to practising journalists and media workers who work and reside in our target countries and have at least three years’ experience.

This workshop provides the perfect opportunity for participants to network with their regional counterparts, examine their roles in the reporting of conflict, and to devise regional strategies for covering conflict accurately, impartially, and responsibly while ensuring their own safety. Participants will be able to contribute towards the planned Journalist Code of Ethics on Conflict Sensitive Reporting and the Safety of Journalists, which will serve as a useful tool for those working in the South Asian media landscape, particularly as it navigates growing threats to media freedom.

The workshop will be followed by two days of mentoring with individual consultations for participants to develop stories on conflict reporting in South Asia. By the end of the workshop and mentoring sessions participants will have developed an understanding on conflict sensitive reporting, journalist safety, and ethical journalism practices to produce at least two analytical stories covering these issues.

Fellowship support of up to US $500 maximum (discretion of project organizers) will be provided on completion of the full programme.
