Agro journalists oriented on agriculture and livestock issues
KATHMANDU: Agro journalists were oriented on agriculture and livestock issues to contribute for the economic growth. They were introduced with the various aspects of agriculture and media relations via national level media workshop on ‘agriculture and economic growth’ that took place on 25 June 2019 in Kathmandu.
The workshop organized jointly by Heifer International Nepal and Media Action Nepal (MAN) was attended by total of 30 journalists from national media outlets who were trained on different aspects of agriculture and livestock polices concentrating on the role they can play in implementing the same.
The workshop attended by journalists of national level newspapers, radio and television channels and online news-portals contributed towards developing a clear understanding about the agriculture and livestock policies, economic growth, agriculture reporting, and the approaches on preparing diverse content on the agricultural and livestock issues.
The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Laxman Datt Pant, media expert and the chairperson of MAN, Dr. Raju Ghimire of the Agriculture Information and Training Center (AITC), Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development and Ms. Neena Joshi, Director of Programs, Heifer International Nepal.
The inaugural session was addressed by Dr. Shubh N. Mahato, Country Director, Heifer International Nepal whereas Dr. Tirtha Regmi Director of Programs, Heifer International Nepal shared his insights on Heifer intervention during the closing session. The inaugural session was moderated my Ms. Sumnima Shrestha, Resource Mobilization Manager of the Heifer International Nepal.
The media workshop helped participating journalists in understanding key agriculture and livestock issues, and role of media in exposing such issues. The workshop was significant to build a common understanding among participating journalists in approaches to gather and analyze agriculture data and render reports on the issues.
