MAN establishes Monitoring Desk

In an attempt to document and analyze the cases of press freedom violations in Nepal, Media Action Nepal (MAN) has set up with a dedicated 24/7 Media Rights Violations Monitoring Desk (MRVMD). The desk will look after media rights violations, analyze the cases on the basis of international standards and provide with its recommendations to key stakeholders to take actions against perpetrators engaged in crimes against journalists. The desk in addition will prepare and disseminate with monthly reports, policy papers and representative case studies analyzing national legal provisions and international instruments on freedom of the press.

“Though Nepal is a state party to many international human rights treaties and freedom of expression instruments, threats against journalists are increasing day by day” said Laxman Datt Pant, Chairperson of MAN. The monitoring desk aims to produce with concrete reports contributing towards conducive environment for media freedom, he added.
