Assessing the Impact of Flood on Media and Journalists
KATHMANDU | September 5: This report prepared by Media Action Nepal, provides a detailed assessment of the impact of the 26 August 2026 flood on journalists and media workers across the affected districts in Nepal.
This assessment report is guided by our preliminary concern, which called on authorities to accelerate urgent search of missing journalists. The assessment documents four journalists who have remained missing since the flood, highlighting the serious risks faced by journalists and their families in the affected areas.
It documents the safety issues and institutional impacts faced by journalists, while also examining how disruptions to communication, electricity, internet, transport and access to affected communities have affected the media’s ability to provide timely, accurate and verified public-interest information. The report further identifies immediate, medium- and long-term needs for recovery, capacity building and resilience.
