MAN’s activities, projects, campaigns and initiatives are governed by an executive board that sets the overall organizational policy, reviews the work and budget and decides on membership and affiliations. MAN believes in transparency, inclusion and participation. Its General Meeting held annually and Executive meetings are held at least once every quarter. Its books of account are audited annually.
Mr. Laxman Datt Pant
Mr. Pant, a well-known media researcher, writer, trainer and freedom of expression advocate holds Master’s degree in Mass Communication and Journalism and is trained in the areas including development journalism, human rights and new media. He started his career as a radio journalist two decades ago and worked with numerous media institutions in different capacities ranging from a reporter to an editor. Prior to joining MAN, he worked as programme specialist at UNESCO Kathmandu Office for the implementation of range of activities on media development including the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity, UNESCO model curricula in journalism and gender sensitivity in media. He coordinated two dozens of national and international professional associations and media rights organizations to implement the UN Peace Fund supported project on safety of journalists. He has written half a dozen of books and contributed with numbers of research articles to journals on different disciplines of journalism and media freedom. A visiting professor of journalism and media studies at Kathmandu University in Nepal and Dhaka University in Bangladesh, Pant has contributed to the formulation of media and communication policies/strategies and the promotion of freedom of expression and gender sensitivity while working with/for organizations such as UNDP/LGCDP, ICJ, Article19’s AFC campaign and so forth. Pant brings extensive knowledge of the local media context and contributes to local, national and international media through his writings. Currently, he leads Media Action Nepal as the Chairperson.
Ms. Priyanka Jha
Ms. Jha, a Kathmandu University graduate in Media Studies, is journalist, media researcher and women rights activist. She has worked in a number of research projects on media and freedom of expression. Interested in and worked with the number of projects related to freedom of speech, media and gender, Jha specializes in the areas of social inclusion and gender equality. She has worked/supported to number of national and international campaigns/institutions including Collective Campaign for Peace (COCAP) and the UNESCO as media monitor and researcher. Currently, she is the Vice-Chairperson of Media Action Nepal.
Mr. Mim Bahadur Pariyar
Mr. Pariyar has completed Masters in English from Tribhuwan University. He is a freelancer, researcher, Dalit rights activist and media practitioner. He started his professional career as a Journalist from Samacharpatra national daily and has contributed with dozens of stories and article to daily and weekly newspapers. He accumulates experience of working in development and media sector for a long time. He has visited to remote parts of Nepal studying the status of Dalits and marginalized communities. . He has participated in and assisted to various training and workshops organized by different UN agencies on Right to Information Act, Role of Media in Sustainable Development, Gender Equality, and Safety of Media. Currently, he is the Secretary of Media Action Nepal.
Ms. Dipa KC
Graduate in education, Ms. KC has been in the field of education and human rights for about two decades. She has contributed by facilitating community level dialogues in social justice and human rights with particular focus on the gender equality and social inclusion. Currently, she is the Treasurer of Media Action Nepal.
Mr. Chandra Shekhar Karki
Mr. Karki, a graduate in photojournalism from International Institute of Journalism, Berlin, is a well known photo journalist of Nepal with three decades of field level experience in the areas of photojournalism and visual communication. Travelled to very remote districts of the country, Karki has captured very rare and historical moments of major social-political, cultural and natural events on lens.
A motivational trainer of photography and photojournalism, Karki worked with Kantipur Publications for more than a decade since its inception. He is widely acknowledged for his work in the areas of photojournalism and recently felicitated with the national photojournalism award. Currently, he is the Executive Member of Media Action Nepal.
Mr. Kamal Dev Bhattarai
A well known journalist and media educator/trainer Mr. Bhattarai holds Master's degree in Journalism with one and half decades of experience in mainstream media. He is widely credited for his knowledge on foreign affairs and development issues. Bhattarai, who worked with newspapers including the Himalayan Times, Himal Khabar Patrika has also served as the Delhi Bureau Chief of Kantipur Group of Publications. A senior correspondent with the Kathmandu Post, he serves at Media Action Nepal as Executive Member.
Ms. Adhikari, journalist and university teacher is a well known name in the areas of journalism and media research. An M. Phil in English literature, she has contributed with dozens of articles and stories to the reputed daily newspapers in and outside country. Interested mainly in the issues of gender and social inclusion she writes in women, gender, and inclusion issues. She is acknowledged for studies on violence against women and right to information. Currently, she is the Executive Member of Media Action Nepal.
